Flying Bulldog Sailing School Ltd., is a Transport Canada Approved Recreational Boating School. FBSS’s owner and Chief Instructor Evaluator (IE,) John Garfitt, P.Eng. (Ret) has been a member of ISPA since 1993. Kevin Wilson is the founder of ISPA.


Flying Bulldog Sailing School Nanaimo features ISPA sailing lessons taught at the highest level by the most experienced sail ing instructors and instructor evaluators In North America.


All FBSS sailing lessons operate out of Nanaimo, BC and use the ISPA syllabus combined with proven teaching techniques and best sailing practices to provide instruction that is your gateway to International Certificates of Competency for Bareboat charter.


Since 1994, International Sail & Power Academy Inc. (ISPA) has provided a comprehensive, internationally recognized  Certificates of Competency program for ISPA Sailing Courses starting with Competent Crew and progressing, at your own pace, to the highest level Ocean Master Certificate of Competency.

At Flying Bulldog Sailing School our sailing lessons are provided in a learning environment that embraces hands-on experience and boating enjoyment. We are dedicated to on-the-water training for sailing bareboat skippers and crew with emphasis on safe and skillful handling of pleasure craft.


FBSS offers a full range of ISPA liveaboard courses from Competent Crew to Ocean Master.


All courses are taught aboard Warlock, our beautifull, well-equipped Baltic 51 Centreboard Cutter.
